I have the inside scoop on how HR and businesses function!

We’ve all had bad jobs.

And bad bosses.

And when the recruiter calls with “a great opportunity, in case you know someone who might be interested…” you can’t put your own resume together fast enough.

But are you going to this next job? I mean, really going “to” it?

Or, are you really just trying to get away from the one you’re in?

Before you get to that point, let’s talk.

Hi, I’m Nancy

Mays Davis Group, Career Coaching, Columbus, OH

I’ve been an HR professional for nearly 30 years, and throughout these 30 years, so many people have said, “You’re not a typical HR person.” I always say “Thank you” because that’s a compliment!

I’ve also had the unfortunate opportunity to lay off people in large numbers over my career (Have you seen the movie, “Up in the Air”?). These people, too, told me I wasn’t their typical HR person. And they thanked me. Yes, THANKED me! I was the messenger, ending their employment. What??? They hadn’t been happy for sometime and by me delivering this news, they were finally forced to make a change. I wasn’t sure if I should be happy for them … or sad?

I learned early on in my career the gift of perspective. My mother passed away very unexpectedly when I was 25. I was at work when I got the call. At her funeral, my boss approached me and started telling me what I missed at the meeting I so abruptly left. Really? Really? Do you not get it? Sadly, he didn’t. And I’ve seen too many people over the years not “get it” either. Life is too short to spend your time doing things that aren’t gratifying or are misaligned with your values. My mother’s passing was a defining moment for me. And with it, she gave me the gift of perspective.

I love being

a Coach.

Truth be told, though, my favorite jobs are really being Stepmom, Aunt Nancy to my nieces and nephews, and puppy-mom to Rooney. Hanging with all of them, and my husband Chuck, brings me great joy. Together, we enjoy traveling, eating great food, and spending weekends at our lake home we call “Nanchucket”.

Wanna chat to see if we are a good fit to work together?

Let’s schedule a coffee chat!  We can meet in person or over the phone.
